Document Summary

Court of justice, and works out of metro west. He teaches law of sentencing and penal policy. On the adult side of what he does, he says that restorative justice is virtually unknown in any real sense. Yes they have had vom running out of the courts since the 1970"s, but realistically, in the urban setting, it simply doesn"t exist. In 1996, the parliament of canada passed our adult sentencing legislation, and it lists among other things that judges are supposed to promote restoration. Mostly, this means they must consider whether the offender has any money and whether we get it out of him. Thus, overall, the structures simply don"t exist in urban adult courts. Canadian research shows that restorative justice as we have been talking about it does exist in adult settings in tiny fly-in communities (usually aboriginal communities). His friend adam manson was a judge of the yukon for about a year.
