What is health?
• A measure of mental/psychological and physical well-being
o Subjective measure: influenced by culture / media / religion
• Natural / Environmental Health
• Public Health (Physical health & disease prevention)
o 2.6-3% of federal budget for health is for mental health
• Sexual Health
o Ontario sex education program came out in 2016, from K – 12, it encompasses
trust, body, intimacy, touch, being safe. (Doug Ford trying to repeal it)
• Spiritual Health
o And ensuring access to practitioners / places of worship
What is Disease?
• Chronic
• Physical
• Pathogens / organisms
o But then what about chronic fatigue? Lyme disease? Fibro myalgia?
vs. Illness?
• Defined by oneself – an interpretation/perception of one’s health status
vs. Sickness?
• Point of view of other people
