Eukaryotes are organisms with nucleus in their cells. Plants-characteristics and 4 general groups: characteristics, alive- how do we know, how are plants classified among all living organisms, how much diversity is there among plants? (note: algae and fungi are not plants) All living organisms are made up of cells. Fundamental properties of life: organized structure and composition, ability to grow and develop, ability to undergo metabolic processes, ability to respond to environment, ability to evolve and adapt, reproduction. Retention of embryo embryophytes (all plants) Can be polyploidy (different for various plants) Life cycle can be haploid dominant or diploid dominant. All have cell walls with cellulose: some have lignin (when they get taller, gives structure) What differentiates the three domains from each other: eukaryotic vs. prokaryotic cells. Two domains with prokaryotic cells: bacteria and archaea, unicellular, prokaryote means before nucleus, they don"t have a nucleus. Green algae belong in protists: we think protists are made up of more kingdoms.
