Galen was a greek physician who postulated balance in people who were well and. Sick people ooze fluids (puss, blood, sweat, tears, etc. ) imbalance in those who are not. Excess of one particular fluid resulted in the emergence of a specific characteristic. Melancholic (black bile)= emotionally unstable and introverted. Choleric (yellow bile)= emotionally unstable and extroverted. Learns about the building blocks of matter. Spearman, who developed many correlations after galton created the correlation, worked with cattell. Cattell"s goal was to determine the recipe for an individual"s personality. Cattell had three problems with psychology: not enough multivariate analysis, not enough empiricism/measurement, analysis of human nature should be data-driven. Cattell said the answer is in the data. Building blocks of personality should be measured to reach an answer. Cattell says research should be data-driven: psychologists should go out and measure data and work from there. To discover/identify basic elements of human personality.
