Charismatic leadership: divinely inspired gift, weber: in uence based on perceptions that a leader has exceptional qualities, rather than tradition or formal authority. Dark side: vision re ects internal needs of leader rather than market of followers, resources needed to chive vision have ben seriously miscalculated, unrealistic assessment of the market and follower needs, failure to recognize environment changes. Goal is to give followers an inspiring missions, vision, and identity. In uence others through the exchange of pay, status, and other rewards for work e ort or compliance with organizational goal. Contingent reward: management: the exchange process between leaders and followers in which e ort by followers is exchanged for speci c rewards. Management-by-exception: leadership that involved corrective criticism, feedback, and punishment based on deviations from expectations. Refers to a leader who abdicates responsibility, delays decisions, gives no feedback and makes little e ort to help followers satisfy needs.
