Recall: that lateral horn branches off from t1-l2. White rami communicans are found where there is sympathetic output (aka at the lateral horns) Gray rami communicans are found at all levels. Sympathetic chain does go far into the coccyx and into the neck (output at all these locations but not necessarily input at all locations) A coffee addict was too eager to drink his morning cup and drank it too quickly. He burnt his tongue which was very painful. When he tried to eat the donut that went with is coffee, he noticed that he could not really taste much. Needless to say, it was not a good start to the day! Give the anatomical basis for the pain and diminished sense of taste he experienced. Structures separated by the v: come together and fuse at a point, drag along the innervation, two locations: Anterior to the v, 2/3 of the tongue.
