Anatomy feb. 4th coronary and pulmonary circulation. Project those points onto the anterior chest wall. Lower left point: floating around the 5th intercostal space at the mid clavicular line, perpendicular line down from the clavicle. Stethoscope is placed on the 4 corners of the heart. The point of listening to the 4 corners is to isolate the sounds of the 4 valves, damage to a valve is based on the sound it makes. The second principle is that it"s hard to hear a sound over a bony structure, so you listen to the sound over an intercostal space or soft tissue. The 4 corners starting with the top right and moving clockwise around the heart: aortic. Semilunar valve, pulmonary semilunar valve, mitral (bicuspid) valve, tricuspid valve. Through the atrioventricular valves, the blood is carried down from the atrium to the ventricle, so is the sound. Through the pulmonary valves, blood is carried up, so is the sound.
