Motivation: positive reinforcement that serves reduction of needs, mainly to things we need to do to maintain internal homeostasis. These systems make sure we are feeding, mating, resting so our body stays healthy. Encompasses the visceral and somatic responses of our body. Reward: positive reinforcement that causes pleasure or joy however, does not necessarily cause pleasure or joy but often connected to that feeling. Dependent on learning, something we do then we get positive reinforcement/reward for that, so when we do that our action will be reinforced so we do it again. Mesolimbic dopaminergic system promotes appetitive behaviors behaviors that lead to reward. We need both to survive, we need motivation so we feed, mate, and keep body healthy and safe. We also need reward learning to successful behaviors lead to good food, mating etc in order for us to learn strategies and ensure successful behaviors will be repeated.
