Document Summary
Lecture 17 neuroendocrine system, stress and stress disorders. Woman came to hospital and was admitted. Symptoms worsened, put on tricyclic antidepressant meds at that time, she got better, than bad depressed and mania. Can see she was in the hospital for some time. Her sy(cid:373)pto(cid:373)s started a (cid:449)eek after her father"s death a(cid:374)d the(cid:374) she was pretty controlled and then all of a sudden she started increasing her symptoms just around the time of her father"s death, throughout the years. This kept recurri(cid:374)g arou(cid:374)d the ti(cid:373)e of her father"s death (cid:894)i(cid:374) 1976, 78, 79) - she kept relapsing around the time of her father"s death e(cid:448)ery year. Stress is a common factor causing the development of symptoms. Evidence how stress can influence psychotic conditions (start and relapse) Can be physical, emotional, metabolic (diabetic acidosis, hypoglycemia), imaginary (delusions, schizophrenia, hallucinations, ptsd) If trivial stressor it will tell brain to ignore (we ignore lots) If salient it will produce a stress response.
