Not living sites but death sites predator lairs, etc. Crania: massive jaw, face sticks out = prognathic, no chin, low skull vault and small cranial capacity largest = <550 cubic cm. compared to modern humans of 1200 cubic cm, pronounced brow ridge (supraorbital torus) Good sample with most of skeleton known eg: lucy . Earliest and most primitive australopithecine: small cranial capatic (380-55cc; average of 415cc); no other species < 450 cc: more projecting face, diastema present, projecting and pointed canine, neither parabolic or rectangular dental; arch but in between.
