A good deal of research has focused examining how morphological and behavioural traits are related to differential reproductive success ( fitness ) among competing males. If larger males gain reproductive advantages, the reproductive success of females who have sons could benefit if those sons grow up to also be large, dominant individuals -- this is sometimes called the sexy son hypothesis.
