Integrated study of human nature and society. The parts of a whole cannot be understood without reference to the whole. Biological anthropologists study all aspects of how human life (biology, culture, environment) interact in complex ways. Non judgmental approach to examining cultural beliefs and behaviours. Biological anthropologists reply on this to explain human origins and and biology. Data collection involves direct contact with the people, sites, artifacts, skeletal remains or animal of interests. Not all biological anthropologists do fieldwork, many spend their time working in labs. Science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. The reason humans walk on two legs is because walking upright required less energy than walking on all fours. No living human ancestors to test but we can observe our closet kin (chimpanzees) Compare calories burned and oxygen consumption between humans and chimpanzees walking on treadmills.
