Boas drew on evidence from biology, archaeology, linguistics, and folklore studies to decouple (delink) race, language and culture. He then argued that culture did not depend directly on any other variable. Culture wasn"t caused by race - or shape of the skull. German/jewish parents - same time durkheim was born. Interested in physics, mathematics and natural history. He was a scientist in a different way. Natural history all about observation of world around you. Exposed him/involved him to observation and description. Brought the minds of human beings into the natural world. Suggested that philosophy could also be studied scientifically. The mind of man in there world interacting with human world. An expression of interaction with the human world.
