Document Summary

Cleavage is important because we are dividng the egg into many small cells/blastomere. Many mitotic divisions that are going on very quickly without external resources, there is no growth in mass. They divide the resoureces in that egg between each other. In mammals its different, genome is turned on early. (once its turned on, cell divisions are controlled by dna). So the cells keep dividing and eventually the genome is turned on. So early mitotic divisions occur with out any transcription. Mammalian embryos are going to be in the uterous and get nutrients form there (they get hooked up through chord), and will be able to grow. So you can depend on the mother for nutrition (this is different from frog/chicks) A frog or a chicken egg, has to carry its own nutrients, so there is no growth in frog or chicken egg (check) (mammalian is different cus they can depend on mother).
