Document Summary

Evolution/natural selection is only possible/ happens b/c of genetic variation. A genome = one copy of all dna sequences in chlorosomes. Dna exists in nucleus (linear chromosome), mitochondria(circular shaped), chloroplast (circular) "1 n" = one copy of all an organisms" nuclear chromosome: we would nd 1 set of chromosome in a sperm/ egg cell. N represents one copy of all an organism"s nuclear chromosome. C represents the amount of dna in one copy of chromosomes (in weight, # of base pairs) Ex: c value = 3 billion base pairs. Amount of dna in 1 copy of chromosome. Cells actively sometimes, cells don"t divide most of the time. Purpose: growth, repair, pass on genetic info. Where are these cells in animals: not all cells are destined to divide any time soon, blood cells, tissue cells, sperm cells & other cells that are being replaced daily are the cells that are rapidly dividing.
