Our ancestors co-occured with neanderthals denisovans and probably other hominids. We know homo sapiens are the only current surviving genus of us. But there were hominids in the past that were more closely related to us than chimps are. Compare structural similarities b/w us and neanderthals. We discover new fossils of a different hominids every year. Denisovan fossils were recovered from a cave. within this cave, there were evidence of neanderthals (later species), and other ancestors also occupied that same location: all 3 types of hominids lived in the same place. We can determine if our ancestors ever interbred with other hominids: answer is: yes, sometimes, some evidence, some of our genes (ecp. european) has a proportion that was inherited from. Neanderthals: evidence of hybridization: denisovans hybridized with neanderthals and our ancestors, some geographic modern populations have more densivans than others from other locations.
