Document Summary

Our species is the only current surviving representative genus homo. No other species more closely related to us than bonobos and chimpanzees, but there used to be other types of hominids that represents the genus homo. There were other hominids that were more closely related to us than bonobos & chimpanzees, a known example is neanderthals. New fossils of different species of hominids continues to be found; found in caves that our ancestors used to live in. Fossils of denisovans were found in the same cave as neanderthals & our ancestors. Before neanderthals and denisovans went extinct, they hybridized with members of our own species. Using mdna and other genetic sequences, we found that some amount of hybridization exists b/w densivans, neanderthals, and members of our own species. Degree of gene ow depends on geographic (denisovans were found in south asia, papa new guinea; while neanderthals were found in northern asia)
