Cleopatra"s story is continually portrayed as a story of sex, death, and power. It is also always portrayed as a story with either a witty or a tragic ending (usually tragic, but witty is in film). She is characterized in many ways: ruination of egypt, a great leader, vixen, temptress, a victim: some scholars portray her as a threat or a disgrace. Cleopatra has generated various treatments in art and film, and in them, she is the cleopatra of myth and fantasy, as well as history: keep in mind that her myth began in her own lifetime. The life of cleopatra was one of the first stories to be told on film. Cleopatra 1917 by 20th century fox (america) featuring exotic and seductive theda bara. Film is now missing due to spontaneous combustion of nitrate base. But the stills and publicity releases still survive. This means that any movie about cleopatra will become as extravagant as cleopatra herself.
