Lab content: minerals, igneous rocks, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, stratigraphic principles, structural geology, geologic maps. Lecture topics: plate tectonics: what it is, continental drift, sea oor spreading, plate boundaries. The crust and uppermost mental eventually separated. The mantle and crust make up the lithosphere (rock) Movement can occur in the asthenosphere over time. The movement of these plates causes earth, volcanoes, etc: minerals: what they are, structures and bonds, common mineral groups and uses, igneous rocks: how they form, magma types, igneous textures, rock types and uses. Alfred wegener thought that the continents had moved from an origin original supercontinent where all continents were joined together. They couldn"t had swam across the ocean. Rocks and structures also match cross ocean basins.
