Document Summary

Uranus and neptune have much higher proportions of water, ammonia, and methane than hydrogen and helium. Both are 4 times larger than earth. Each is directed by thin dark rings. Both have thick layers of slush ice" beneath those atmospheres. Neptune has a core temperature of 7000 k while uranus has a core temperature of 2000 k. So uranus radiates almost no heat at all. Discovered by willam herschel in 1781 - originally it was called georgium. Sidus - it was renamed uranus by bode. John couch adams and jean le verrier discovered neptune around the same time (1834) - they are jointly credited with neptune"s discovery. In 1986, voyager 2 flew past uranus and in 1989 it flew past neptune. New horizons crossed the orbits of uranus and neptune on the way to pluto. We assume that the planets all originated in nearly the same plane, rotated the same direction, with more or less upright stance.
