Throughout early human history, sun appears to have been accepted as a god, from egyptian ra and aztec. Usually, the sun god was given human capabilities but was seldom given anything but a perfect personality. We first looked at the hertzsprung-russell diagram in chapter 2; figure 4. 1 is a more colourful version. It is here to reinforce the idea that sun is a main sequence star. In fact, astronomers classify sun as a bit on the small size of main sequence stars but nevertheless it is brighter than about 85 % of the other stars in our milky. Figure 4. 2 shows the different parts of sun. There is not really a surface" to sun. Think of it this way: sun is made of gas that becomes denser as you move toward the centre of sun. The photosphere (visible outer layer of a star) represents the depth within that gas at which we can see no deeper toward the core.
