30 views4 pages

Document Summary

Moon is the only thing in the nearby space that our eyes can resolve features on without. Bright enough to see by day, and dominates by night! Due to the collision that left earth with a metallic core, moon is less dense, mostly comprised of silicon, aluminium, magnesium and oxygen! Because of this we only ever see one side of the moon, and never the dark side! The moon has had a partner before (sept 2006 - june 2007) when a small asteroid ew close enough to earth to get caught in its gravitational eld: it did 4 orbits and then continued on! We also know earth has a trojan satellite: an object with the same orbit as another body, but doesn"t collide with that object due to its location in the orbit - legrangian point! Photographs, samples, measurements and our sight have helped planetary scientists a great deal in knowing about the moon!
