Mars has always been of great interest as it has long been thought that life exists on mars! Prize offered a century ago to contact other beings (guzman prize) but mars was excluded as. Chapter 11: mars! it was thought to be too easy! Astronomers began producing maps in 1860: good effort despite hazy images by german/italian astronomer g. v. Wealthy astronomer (percival lowell, boston) built a state of the art facility primarily to study mars in flagstaff, arizona! Promoted idea of canals being a planet wide irrigation system pumping water from poles to equatorial regions! Wall street journal stated in 1907 that proof by astronomical observations shows that conscious, intelligent life exists on mars! Now we know that the canals and the system of lines drawn by astronomers are nothing but illusions! Many earth like features (polar caps, atmosphere)! Many years ago it was like earth, with the greenhouse effect and water and perhaps even life!
