Decide what is meant by life or life-form! Chapter 19: life in the universe: living matter utilizes energy from its environment to survive and create offspring, life-forms can reproduce and carry out process to grow and live, simplest life-form we know - bacteria! These are life-forms because they can reproduce and metabolize: viruses on the other hand are not life-forms! Cannot survive or live without a host cell! They have no cells and are fragments of dna or rna: all organisms that have life are built from cells! Smallest unit of life, and all organisms are made from one or more! Within the cell, ability of life to reproduce and self-preserve is based on the interactions between nucleic acids and proteins: nucleic acids are composed of! Nitrogen compound: once form of these is dna (deoxyribose nucleic acid)! Primary role is to provide information to regulate chemical reactions in the body: another form is rna (ribonucleic acid)!
