Document Summary
The slope or gradient of the river will determine the rate of flow and the shape of the river. A river can transport sediment downstream in three ways. Dynamic environment that are affected by winds that generate surface currents, density differences that create deep-ocean circulation, and moon-sun that creates tides. The transition zone from land to water is continuously and rapidly changing, mostly modified by wind generated waves. Waves are transfer of energy in a medium. In open water the wave energy moves forward but water does not particles move in circular motion when a wave passes. Energy transfer from wind to water goes to the surface and beneath. At depth equal to half a wave length, movement stops known as wave base. When wave base contacts basin floor, interference slows and waves advance, meaning decrease wavelength, and wave height increase. Max point where it collapses called break, and resting turbulent water called surf.
