A result of the failure to attend to be attended to. Can be used in a number of ways. Used by her husband and herself as a kind of weapon (what you are thinking is madness, it is just fancy) All fantasies express at some level a kind of desire. Attend to entire story as her fancy, an expression of desire for two things: Writing of this story is an index for someone to listen. *we* are listening to her, we do what those in her life cannot do. To escape the boundaries that her husband and her culture have placed her within. This desire is projected onto the wallpaper and trapped people. Their emergence and escape at the end of the story is her ultimate desire freedom. Expressing desire is the first step toward achieving. At least she recognizes that she is trapped. First step to escaping prison is recognizing that you"re in a prison.
