Fan of a novel is disappointed by the film based on the same novel. Even if of the same medium can be vastly different. Oceans 11 60"s vs 2000"s: the artist will shape the subject matter in vastly different ways whether consciously or unconsciously. Experiencing the different versions will bring different emotions and meanings: can analyze a film according to its patterns. Abab abbabb: different patterns bring different expectations. Can also be challenged, also are grounded in what is familiar to the audience. If it is constantly what you expect you"ll stop watching which forces them to induce change. If film follows expectations too closely the audience becomes disappointed aka predictable. We acknowledge based on what we know: we also do not hold films to our real life experiences. Have to be willing to suspend expectations of real life: film is a piece of art.
