Document Summary

Persistent concussive symptoms: these are concussion symptoms that persist beyond expected time frames: > 10-14 days in adults, >4 weeks in children. A range of non-specific symptoms linked to co-existing pathologies but doesn"t necessarily reflect ongoing physiologic injury to the brain. Important: identify specific contributory pathologies and send to multidisciplinary care with expertise in concussive care. Every patient who is suspected to have had a concussion should be assessed and have a follow up with a md within 1-2 weeks. Identify patients who may be at risk of pcs and intervene. There are several assessments that we can use to give them a (cid:498)score(cid:499). There is a large overlap with anxiety/depression, sleep disorder and persistent symptoms. Significant risk is when there is a new mood that has developed post tbi. Asses early for depressive symptoms and identify anxiety: gad-7, depression scale phq-9 validated in concussed adult and pediatric concussed pt, cbt. Note: pre-existing sleep disorder is a risk for pcs.
