Physical geography overview of the physical setting of ontario. 2nd largest province (quebec is slightly larger: 412,582 square miles, 1,068,582 km2. Toronto: also a native word, tarantou = place of meeting . Great lakes: lake superior, lake michigan- completely in the usa, lake huron (with georgian, lake erie, lake ontario (with st. lawrence river) Natural regions of ontario: ontario lies (predominantly) in 2 natural regions, canadian shield (laurentian plateau) high lands . Interior plains and lowlands land in the middle : hudson bay plains (interior plains, lowlands (great lakes st. lawrence) Elevation of ontario: people mostly live where it is relatively flat, the land is flat in the northern and southern ontario (green region in the picture) Figure 5. 4 - central canada: green- great lakes st. lawrence lowlands, pink- canadian shield, all exposed and the soil has been scraped off of it. Division of ontario: the red line is the main division between northern and southern.
