Coming out of wwii strongest economy in history, americans had more disposable income than anyone before. Culmination of trends that began in 20s depression no one had money to spend. Tremendous pent up demand for spending and an economy that allows for it. Stage was set for the introduction of a new type of individualism on a mass scale everyone could embrace. That was the ability to express yourself through what you buy. American dream shifts: people able to express their personal freedom as consumers. Able to buy whatever they want and whatever they want will express who they are. Because american economy so strong inflation low, prices low, everyone can enjoy this . Individuality expressed on social terms what you own anyone with a half decent job can own a home.
