Thought that christianity was becoming too liberal. Again, men seen as rational calm ones and women seen as lustful and uncontrollable. Because of plague, ideas of virginity and celibacy became even more appealing to the church. The medieval period was filled with contradictions and double standards (for both men and women) Men thought to be rational but in need of sex. Women thought to be lustful but needed to refrain from sex.
