Health indicators are a number of ways to measure health. Subjective measures (self-rated health: self-reported ,subjective ,single item that is based on one question or a global response which is combination of different questions. Morbidity (disease: hospital and doctors records, self reported sickness, or time off work. Indicates the rate of new cases of disease within a specified period of time , month or a year of number of new cases. Indicated how prevalent and widespread the disease is: snapshot at a point in time to show how prevalent a disease is. Life expectancy: average number of years an individual can expect to live based on current mortality patterns. Infant mortality: death during the first year of life, rate/1,000 or 100,000, access to childbirth or prenatal care are a good way of assessing the quality of the health care system. 1920s: tuberculosis ( higher in north of canada) The social and economic environments in which people live determine their health.
