Humans decided to cut into each other and explore the human body. Egyptians created a surgical papyrus that indicated some major organs in the body (heart, liver, and spleen) Refined over the span of about 30,000 years. Leonardo da vinci created anatomical text that our images are based off of (30 dissections) Made it more acceptable to the public, people started to agree more with it. Drew the human form in motion as opposed to just anatomical position. Ensuring that other people know what we"re talking about and creates the foundation of anatomy, while making it universal. We need terms of direction, position, and movement so that we can ensure that everyone is speaking the same language. Need a position to reference everything to unless otherwise stated. We refer to it as their left and their right. Supine position involves lying on the back. The head is turned to the side in the prone position.
