Document Summary

Good theory or model has 3 characteristics: Genetics and epigenetics interact with the environment to shape health / wellbeing. Genes control specific characteristics and we have 23,000 genes in each cell nucleus of our body. Genotype is the specific genetic material on individual chromosomes whereas phenotype is the observed characteristics. Mitochondrial inheritance (inherited genes from the mother"s egg) Ex. blond hair, rh negative, red hair. Epigenetics is the study of changes stemming from modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code. Epigenetic markers regulate gene expression (by turning genes on or off) By controlling gene expression, epigenetic mechanisms regulate bodily processes. Idea: the egg that made me was made when my mother was inside my grandma. Therefore, the nourishment that my grandma gave my mother when she was in the womb impacts me. In egg years we are all much older than our age. Nutrition flows across generations from one generation to the next.
