Age of conception is getting higher in canada. Rates of triplets, quadruplets, and quintuples has increased over 230% since the mid 1990s. This makes sense when we think about the increase of assisted human reproduction techniques. Advanced maternal age (ama) is becoming an increasingly common phenomena (when an individual gets pregnant at 35 years or older) Increased ama leads to an increase in conception of multiple births, and an increase in the use of assisted human reproduction techniques: Cryopreservation - freezes the embryos created in ivf. Arti cial insemination - injects sperm directly into the woman"s uterus. Any time from conception to the postpartum period (which is 8 to 12 weeks after birth, though sometimes we talk about postpartum as the full year after birth)
