Kinesiology 1080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Empiricism, Motor Skill
Document Summary
Lecture 18: the scientific method and classifying and identifying motor skills (feb. 26th 2018) Research method: experiment, want to find out whether the hypothesis is true or not, tool for determining nature of relationship between variables, manipulate and observe the effects of a variable on another variable. Independent variable that is being manipulated by the experimenter. Can have one or many of these, observe effects of this on dependent: dependent variable that is measured by the experimenter. Identifying motor skill types: motor skills can be classified using three schemes, task organization identify something as being one of three different skills, continuum, discrete skill skill that is organized, action is brief, well defined start/end. E. g. shooting in hockey, sit to stand behaviour, etc: serial skill skill characterized by sequence of discrete skills linked together. Often the order of the actions is critical to performance success. E. g. playing the piano, assembly line tasks, etc: continuous skill skill that unfolds without distinct start/end.
