Output to the corticospinal pathway as well as m1 projections. Projections terminate on hand and finger musculature. Innervate alpha motor neurons to hands and fingers, associated with manipulating digits. Active for internally generating activities there is not a cue, they are continually generating. Sequence of specific (some neurons fire only in relation to a specific movement sequence) Ex ample in a study, with monkeys, where they look at 3 different tasks, push, pull, and turn. Some are so specific that they only fire when push comes after turn. Activity increases in relation to movement complexity. Sma activity for real or imagined movements. In monkeys, damage to sma produces deficits in bimanual coordination. Under the box there is a hole with a food reward in it. Bimanual coordination using one hand to do one thing, and the other hand to perform something else while being successful.
