Overview- key outcomes sports/ pa / games varied by time and place. Modern sports: unique combination of seven characteristics. To compare a quick look at: ancient greece/ rome, medieval europe industrial revolution, the canadian (modern sports) case. Why use history and the past: to understand the present, to think about the future. Social practices are always subject to change contestation. Historical and cultural variation game and pa have existed in nearly all cultures: most human history exist without sports included. Variations are the result of social construction: socially dominant model but not 100, areas of pa practices that are not fully sports and they are increasingly organized to an understanding on a global scale. Cross fit- global phenomenon (not a sports but there is organized activity: world processes that create this global concept of activity, not a ton of variation.
