Underlying we don"t see a personality directly but indirectly through actions, comments underlines and shapes a person"s actions and reactions. Reflective of who we are; at least amenable to change. Includes perceptions of external world and self, basic attitudes, values, interests, and motives. Variable, daily behaviours influenced by the particular context we are in. Individuals possess certain body types that predispose behavioural consistency: Ectomorph tense, introverted, inhibited (tall + thin) Endomorph affectionate, sociable, relaxed (short + fat) Mesomorph adventurous, dominant, aggressive, risk-taking (athletic) Not necessarily because personality is generally stable, there is only some association, small to moderate influence at best. Emphasis is placed on the person rather than on the situation or the environment. Traits are thought to reflect motivational systems that increase adaptation to positive or negative stimuli.
