Kinesiology 3222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Superior Sagittal Sinus, Arachnoid Mater, Choroid Plexus
Document Summary
The spinal cord is not part of the brain, they are continuous but separate there are 3 main components: the forebrain is the largest of the components, brainstem, cerebellum. Continues attached to the spinal cord the medulla and brainstem ends at the foramen magnum (base of the skull) where you have the end of the medulla oblongata and the beginning of the spinal cord. Cerebellum is the second largest lobe of the brain. Top of the brain shows the long split from front to back called the longitudinal fissure that splits the brain into the right and left cerebral hemispheres. Hemispheres are covered by the same protective layers that we talked about in the spinal cord in the last lecture. Dura mater , arachnoid mater and pia mater the innermost layers is the pia mater: pia mater means delicate mother, the only layer that follows each of the sulci and gyri of the cerebral cortex.
