Document Summary
Describe the anatomy and histology of the adrenal glands. Distinguish between insulin and glucagon, the primary. Identify the functions of the main adrenal hormones pancreatic hormones. Differentiate between the various types of diabetes. Also called suprarenal glands, they are pyramidal shapes that sit on top of the kidneys. They have significant functions in our endocrine system. They have a fibrous capsule that protects the glands and makes the thick coating. There are 2 main levels for hormonal secretion, outer cortex and inner medulla. Take a look at the gross anatomical look at the adrenal glands. Being endocrine glands they need a significant blood supply and drainage system. Position on top of the kidneys the blood supply coming from the side and top are the suprarenal arteries. The superior and middle suprarenal comes off of the area of the celiac trunk coming off of the abdominal aorta.
