Kinesiology 3388A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Sarcasm, Physical Abuse, Self-Actualization
Document Summary
Typical motivation (not really motivation)- might motivate for a short period of time, but not long term (key to motivation is it needs to be long term) Intimidation: team tryout, coach: most of you not good enough for this team, wont make team, have to impress, show you deserve to play . Criticism: player makes error, coach grabs and makes threat you better get you shit together , coach: worst performance seen, if you cant do better then leave . Criticism and sarcasm: hey hands of steel, need sticky tape to catch? , my mama can catch better than you , you guys stunk in game; next practice we"re doing. Attempt to induce short- term changes in behaviour: forced change= short term benefits. Forced change has very limited impacts, has short term impacts but not long term benefits. If motivation comes from within, tends to have longer benefits.
