In practice, when we talk about media, we usually mean large scale, technologically complex systems of communication. In the 20th century, the media meant communication industries like newspapers, radio, film, tv, reaching big popular audiences. Usually organized in very top-down ways, offering a standardized range of content. Today, this is changing because of computers and digital networks (internet) Media now includes social media and mobile phones. Media is a very important area of employment and work.
