Leadership or dominance, especially by one country or social group over others. Marxist definition: extend the idea of domination or forms of leadership ad bring it to the question of class relations. Ruling class exerts hegemonic power over the working/ middle/ poor classes. Ideology is applied to the consciousness to the dominant and subordinate class. Hegemony is not false consciousness or manipulation, but a shared sense of reality.
