The development of nursing leaders must begin at the outset of every education program. Need to be able to advocate for our patients. Right from day one, we need to become leaders. Leadership begins with: a strong professional identity. Leadership refers to having a shared vision about your organization, understanding the values, organizational strategy and very much about relationships (values, vision relationship. You can create working environments for healthy relationships and healthy teamwork. Management refers to the competencies of day-to-day nursing care (someone who can manage resources and is aware of the standards of practice) A good manager might not be a good leader and vice-versa. Transformaitonal leadership practices: being able to lead change, we can not be static. Someone who is aware of external and internal factors tht affect our practice. It is someone who helps people cope with change. Each nurse shows leadership by providing, facilitating, & promoting the best possible care to the public.
