Strengths are not opposite of weaknesses: separate class of qualities, capacities or capabilities, skills , coexist together, should focus on strengths to help patient heal, identifying strengths gives patient purpose in life and new way of thinking of themselves. Recognizing the value of their strengths develops satisfaction. Strengths are defined by the context & circumstance. Strengths are multidimensional: many layers and qualities to a strength. People are born with different strengths and talents our job to development: connected to developmental stages. Ex. toddlers should develop self-control, not infants. Reflects culture one strength in a culture is considered a weakness in another.
