Document Summary

Chapter 4: developing research questions, hypotheses, and clinical. All research studies begin with questions and/or hypotheses. The rst step in developing evidence-informed practice is also to ask a question, but it is a clinical question. In a research study, the research question and hypothesis lead to the development of a research study, whereas in a project on evidence-informed practice, the clinical question is what leads to the study. Questioning in clinical practice is normally articulated in a problem statement. The research question presents the idea that is to be examined in the study and is the foundation of the research study. If the research question is primarily explorative, descriptive, or theory generating, the researcher opts for qualitative methods. For studies in which the researcher is seeking a speci c answer to a research question, however, a hypothesis is generated and tested.
