Suicide is a permanent solution to an often temporary problem and is largely preventable! 2: between 12-37% of people who die by suicide leave a note, bullyside - refers to suicidal behaviour in response to bullying, over 200 canadians every year experiencing problems r/t to gambling end up taking their lives. Inmates living in prison high risk for suicide: non-heterosexual youths higher risk of suicide ideation due to discrimination. Ideation: substance abuse, purposelessness, anxiety or agitation, trapped, hopelessness or helplessness, withdrawal, anger, recklessness, mood change. Impending incarceration: low frustration tolerance, sexual orientation issues, social isolation. Protective factors: sense of responsibility to family (spouse, children, find what is meaningful to them, pregnancy, religious beliefs, satisfaction with life, positive social support, access to health care, effective coping skills, effective problem-solving skills. Intact reality testing: connection with others, sense of purpose & meaning in life. All-consuming psychic pain: to understand this phenomenon, imagine the pain of your hand on a hot burner.
