Physiology 1021 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Myelin, Axon Terminal, Action Potential
Document Summary
Today : excitable cells, the graded and action potentials, na and k voltage gated channels. Excitable vells: generate and respond to electrical signals. Nurons use electrical signals in the form of action potential that receive signals and initiate and tranmit messages. Your brain allows you to think understand and controls other body fuctions. The axon carry 0uot signals and the signal is carried downt he axon terminal to the axon. The cell membrane is more permeable to k+. if the permability to sodium chaned in the cell, the sodium would move in by the chemical gradient. The membrane potential will become less negative called depolarization, which mens the cell is becoming less negative or more positive. Hyperpolarixation is when the cell becomes more negative. Ions usually move through the protein ion channels into active transport. The ion channels is a duffusion process, meaning it works when there is a difference in concentration.
