: 1 ap on the -motor neuron will always produce 1 ap on the muscle cell membrane: assuming the motor nerve, muscle cell, and nmj are healthy. The main reason is the large amount of ach released at the nmj. When there is an epp, so much positive charge flows in b/c many chemically-gated channels are open. It always reaches threshold and fires the ap. One of the most powerful toxins: ~1mg is lethal to humans. Blocks release of ach at nmj by proteolytically degrading a protein required for vesicles to fuse to membrane: protein that cause migration of ach to the membrane get broken down so ach is not able to release. If ach is not released, the muscle does not contract. Toxin must get inside axon terminals in order to cause paralysis. It can be taken into neurons by endocytosis. People get botulism from uncooked food or canned foods.
